If you followed the movement from one phrase to the next, you already understand something essential about Predictive Poetry.

Each connection is ordinary.

The complete journey is not.

No single step requires an explanation. Battle cry, cry me a river, and river current are familiar expressions. Each phrase carries one word forward, where it becomes part of something new.

Meaning changes direction, but continuity remains.

By the time battle cry arrives at time and again, language has traveled an extraordinary distance through ordinary connections. The surprise belongs to the complete journey rather than any isolated step.

This is why the artifact is the explanation.

A definition can describe the hinge. Instructions can explain how a trace is constructed. Neither communicates the experience as directly as watching language move—or making it move yourself.

The artifact does not merely prove that Predictive Poetry exists. It introduces the practice.

A trace can perform this role wherever it appears. It might become a correspondence, a song title, a poster, an invitation, or a line that changes the direction of an ordinary conversation. It does not need to remain inside Predictive Poetry to retain what the practice revealed.

Once the premise is understood, its movement becomes easier to notice elsewhere.

Language is already filled with hinges. Predictive Poetry gives us a way to follow them deliberately and discover where they lead.

This also changes how the practice should be presented.

An invitation into Predictive Poetry should not begin by arguing for its importance. It should offer something worth encountering. An advertisement should demonstrate the practice. A shared trace should invite another person to continue. A completed correspondence should make its possibilities visible without requiring a defense of them.

Explanation still has a role. It can clarify what someone has encountered, give names to recurring structures, and help a correspondent develop greater fluency.

But explanation follows the artifact.

The artifact goes first.

It says:

Here is what happened.

Here is where language went.

Where would you take it next?
