Carry

Inherited meaning from one turn to the next—and a game built on convergence.

When you continue a hinge sequence, you begin from the word the previous step ended on. That inherited ending—the carry word—is how meaning carries forward instead of starting over. Semantic convergence names the idea that many clues can point to one hidden word. Carry is also the name of a rules-governed game built on that principle: finding the hidden word clues converge on, using the Hinge Atlas.
